USeP Produces 7 Huawei Certified Instructors in Storage Technology

Seven participants from different units and colleges of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) passed the week-long “Train the Trainers” program in storage technology administered by Huawei Technologies on September 16-21, 2019 at the University’s College of Information and Computing Computer Laboratory.

Michael Anthony Jandayan and Cresselle John Lazo of the Knowledge Management Division (KMD); Presciallouh Sean Narit and Ariel Roy Reyes of the College of Information and Computing (CIC); Archie Cenas and Rey De Leon of the College of Teacher Education and Technology (CTET); and Francis Jay Jumawan of the College of Technology (CT) survived the rigorous lecture sessions and hurdled three certification stages: written exam, laboratory exam and interview session en route to becoming  Huawei Certified ICT Associates (HCIA) and Huawei Certified Academy Instructors (HCAI) in storage technology. Christian Lugatiman (KMD), Nancy Mozo (CIC) and Michael Machica (CT) also acquired HCIA status after passing the written exam component of the certification program.

Malaysian lecturer Roy Chong imparted his immense knowledge and experience of storage technologies to the participants. Some of the salient topics he discussed include Storage Systems Architecture, Advanced Storage Technologies, Business Continuity Solutions and Data Center Storage Management. The main goal of the training program is to enhance the capability and skills of instructors to deliver relevant and up-to-date knowledge to students through exposure with industry standard concepts and technologies and hands-on exercises using enterprise storage equipment.

The storage technology training program is already the second in a series of training programs lined up for the University. Last year, the same training program covering the topic Routing and Switching was conducted. Jamal Kay Rogers, Val Quimno and Nancy Mozo from the CIC became the first Huawei-certified instructors of the University.

The training program is in line with the memorandum of agreement (MOA) forged by the University and Huawei Technologies in October 2018. The three-year partnership led to the accreditation of USeP as the first state university in the country to become a Huawei Information and Communications Technology Academy. Included in the agreement is the building of a Huawei ICT Laboratory in the USep Obrero Campus where students can have hands-on experience with enterprise servers and other networking equipment. The MOA allows the University to deliver Huawei certification courses to students. Earlier this year, CIC students Justin Andre De Leon, Sheena May Halog and Jana Alexis Paner represented the Philippines in the Huawei Asia Pacific ICT Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.   (majandayan)
