Mission Statement

The Mindanao Center for Policy and Development Studies, as a unit of the University of Southeastern Philippines, is a non-stock, nonprofit government research institution that shall engage in policy-oriented research.

Through the Center’s programs, projects, and activities, it is hoped that policy-oriented research on social and economic development, specially for Mindanao, can be expanded to assist more directly the Government in planning and policy making.

   
Functions of the Center

By virtue of the USEP Board of Regents Resolution No. 2159 s. 1993, the Mindanao Center for Policy Studies, hereafter referred to as the Center, is mandated to carry out the following functions:
  1. Conduct policy studies at both the macro and the micro levels in the areas of education, manpower and employment; industry; agriculture, fisheries and forestry; energy; sustainable development; science and technology; and rural, urban, and regional development;
  2. Conduct studies on institutional and organizational development;
  3. Conduct studies on the development of cultural communities and other ethnic groups;
  4. Provide advisory/technical assistance services to government and non-government organizations; and
  5. Conduct seminars/workshops/training programs and short-term courses for government and non-government organizations.
   
Research Priorities

The Center focuses on four (4) research program clusters during the intermediate term. These programs aim to operationalize the Center and at the same time conduct selected studies which focus on the immediate concerns of development administrators, policymakers and planners of Mindanao and of the regions comprising the Island.

The four (4) clusters of programs (P) are:

P1: Bibliographic Survey of Studies Concerning Mindanao

P2: Selected Government Program/Project Review and Evaluation

P3: Policy, Planning, and Development Administration/Management Studies

P4: Formulation and Advocacy of Alternative Policy/Strategy Options
