The UniveITSOrsity of Southeastern Philippines – Innovation and Technology Office  (USeP ITSO) has been awarded as the Top Patent Filer by the Intellectual Property of the Philippines (IPOPHL) for the year 2015 with 56 patents filed. USeP has filed the highest number of patent applications competing over 33 universities nationwide during the ITSO Annual Planning on February 10-12, 2015, held at Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan. This was attended by Engr. Michael V. Machica (ITSO Manager) and Dr. Romel V. Gador (Research Director). There were already 118 patent applications as of March 26, 2015 under the Patent Protection Incentive Package (PPIP) project of IPOPHL under ITSO franchise. Along with USeP that topped in patent filing, the University of San Carlos patented 15 researches, Adamson University with 12, Samar State University with 7 and University of the Philippines Manila and Bicol University with 6 patent applications. One of these researches included “Snap–On Pinch Off Tool for Heating Ventilating Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Application” by Ms. Raquel F. Dumayas. It was tapped by the USPTO-IIPI for business pitching and was presented in the 40th Philippine Business Conference in Manila Hotel, Metro Manila on October 22-24, 2014. Another one is the “Hydro-pneumatic Press,” by Ms. Jocelyn B. Batoon, eyed by a local company for commercialization. These two inventors were graduates of Master of Vocational Education (MVE) program of the University. Indeed, USeP has started achieving its thrust and directions in Research, Instruction, Production, and Extension and continuously faces challenges in becoming one of the premier universities in Asia for research and innovation.
