A Resilient Marine Protected Area Network in Davao City – Making it happen

The City of Government of Davao thru its City Agriculture Office collaborated with the University of Southeastern Philippines, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and (Deuthsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in establishing a network of marine protected area in Davao City. The objectives are a) reduce illegal fishing within the MPAs thru the enforcement of Local Fisheries Code of Davao City; b) increase level of awareness of the community on the importance of protecting the coastal and marine resources through social marketing; and c) identify supplemental livelihood opportunities for communities in order to reduce the pressure on marine resources.
