The university of southeastern Philippines recently signed memorandum of commitment to support the operation of the Davao regional ecology center (DREC) was created in compliance with section 7, chapter 2 of the republic act 9003 otherwise known as the comprehensive ecological solid waste management. It is the center for information such as documentation of LGU best practices in SWM, lecture materials for training and IEC, information on best technologies for SWM, sample plans and, flyers; data base; and processing.

 
The objectives of DREC are:

  • To sustain and intensify the reach-out to LGUs and other stakeholders in order to increase participation and motivation towards solid waste management; and

  • Promote knowledge transfer in solid waste management thru networking.

DREC is spearheaded by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources headed by its Regional Director as an ex-officio chair. The member institutions include DOST,PIA, DTI, USeP, DepED, DILG, PNP, NEDA, DOH, DPWH and DA.
