KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Aimee Lynn A. Barrion-Dupo (aka “Spiderwoman”), a renowned expert on spiders, is currently President of the National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP). As a researcher, she led in the discovery of over 52 species of spiders, 22 species of rice black bugs, and one moth species, and has published a total of 57 refereed papers and 2 book chapters. As an advocate of science communication her efforts center mainly on arthropod diversity and conservation, using social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to educate people on various critter’s roles in the ecosystem. Barrion-Dupo holds the title of Professor 12 and UP Scientist III at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Institute of Biological Sciences, and concurrently serves as curator for spiders and moths at the UPLB Museum of Natural History. She earned her BS, MS, and PhD in UPLB majoring in entomology and was among the Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) awardees by the National Academy of Sciences and Technology (NAST) in 2015.

DR. IRMA TANDINGAN DE LEY
Associate Project Scientist, University of California Riverside
Dr. Tandingan de Ley is Balik Scientist, and is Associate Project Scientist at the University of California Riverside (UCR). She specializes in nematology, nematode taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, and biological gastropods.
DR. ERWIN TECARRO
Associate Professor, Universiti Brunei Darussalam
Dr. Tecarro is an Associate Professor at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD), where he teaches undergraduate mathematics courses. He specializes in Ordinary Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Bifurcation Theory, and Mathematical Biology.
DR. SITI AISYAH PANATIK ABDUL RAHMAN
Deputy Dean (Academic & Student Affairs), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Dr. Abdul Rahman is a Professor of Industrial and Organisational Psychology at the School of Human Resource Development and Psychology (SHARPS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Currently, she serves as the Deputy Dean of the Academic & Student Affairs of the said institution. She graduated with a PhD in Industrial and Organisational Psychology from University of Waikato, New Zealand in 2010, Master of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Bachelor of Science in Genetics (Hons) from National University of Malaysia. Her research and consultancy focus in Industrial and Organisational Psychology such as Work-Life Integration, Work Design, Work-Related Attitudes and Behaviors, Workplace Spiritual, Ethics and Integrity, and Occupational Well-being and Performance as well as Positive Psychology. She is author and editor of several books: (1) Psychological Issues at Workplace, (2) Personality at Workplace, (3) Psychological Issues among Academia, (4) Psychological Well-being at Workplace and (5) Impak Integriti di Malaysia. She published more than 150 international journal papers including Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus indexed.
DR. JAMES MCLELLAN
Associate Professor, Universiti Brunei Darussalam
Dr. McLellan is an associate professor in English Language and Linguistics at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam. His current teaching responsibilities include Language Issues in Brunei, Language in Society, The History of English, The Structure of English, and Analysing Talk. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Australia, on the topic of Language Alternation in two Brunei online discussion forums. He previously taught languages (French, German, English) at secondary and tertiary levels in the United Kingdom (UK), France, Malaysia, Aotearoa (New Zealand), and in Brunei Darussalam. His major research interests include Malay-English code-switching, especially in electronically-mediated discourse; language maintenance and shift in the context of Borneo with particular reference to the Bidayuh community in western Sarawak; language policy and planning in multilingual societies, and South-East Asian varieties of English, including English as a lingua franca (ELF).
DR. ALAN REED LIBERT
Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Newcastle
Dr. Libert is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle in Australia. He graduated PhD in Linguistics at McGill University, Montreal Canada. Dr. Libert has also peer reviewed for several reputable Journals (i.e. Australian Journal of Linguistics, Journal of Pragmatics, Language Problems & Language Planning, Speech Language and Hearing, Brill, Cengage Learning, Language Science Press, and Oxford Bibliographies in Linguistics). His research interests include Turkic languages, artificial languages, and onomastics.

RATIONALE

ICAS: NOVEMBER 2024 ONLINE CONFERENCE

As USeP rigorously envisions upholding internationalization in ASEAN and beyond. With this, the Research and Development Center for Arts and Sciences (RDCAS) is annually showcasing research outputs. Heightening the internationalization landscape for research, CAS faculty and students, and researchers across the region and beyond continually enhance collaboration through exchanging of ideas in uplifting cultural, economic, environmental, and social aspects of the country. It is an immense commitment of the College to embrace the advancement of fourth industrial revolution (FIRe).

This is another milestone for hosting the 4th International Conference for Arts and Sciences 2024. This event is in partnership with the International Affairs Division (IAD) and Research, Development and Extension (RDE) of the University, with the tentative theme: “Bridging the Gap: Integrating Arts and Sciences for a Sustainable Future”.
