TINGUG International Conference<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Indigenous peoples (IPs) possess rich indigenous knowledge systems, values, customs, inventions, and technologies passed down through the ages. These are the cornerstones of their tenacious quest for sustainable, self-determined growth and their ongoing fortitude in the face of prejudice, climate change, biodiversity loss, and other challenges. Regrettably, indigenous peoples' knowledge systems and practices continue to be underappreciated.<\/p>\n

The 1st TINGUG International Conference is an integral component of the University's broader Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP) Projects, focused on elevating awareness and deepening understanding of Indigenous Cultural Communities in the Philippines. Besides information on the current state and trends within the nation's IKSP, the conference seeks to highlight the significant role of IKSP in fostering sustainable development. It will also tackle pressing threats and challenges affecting the vitality of IKSP. Additionally, the conference provides an opportunity to showcase various initiatives by different stakeholders, including indigenous peoples, their communities, and organizations dedicated to protecting, promoting, and furthering the development of their IKSP.<\/p>\n

Following the workshop conducted in June 2023, the IKSP Creative Works Team adopted the proposed title for the international conference as 'TINGUG International Conference 2024,' highlighting the importance of preserving and passing down indigenous cultural heritage, storytelling, music, dance, and other oral traditions across generations.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s international conference invites papers on any of these tracks but not limited to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Indigenous Medicine and Healing Practices: Highlight the traditional healing methods and medicinal plants indigenous communities use for physical and spiritual well-being.<\/li>\n
  2. Indigenous Governance and Justice Systems: Examine traditional governance systems, decision-making, conflict resolution, justice within indigenous societies, and the role of indigenous women in preserving traditional knowledge and promoting community well-being.<\/li>\n
  3. Cultural Heritage and Oral Traditions: Discuss the preservation and transmission of Indigenous cultural heritage, including storytelling, music, dance, oral traditions, languages, Indigenous education, Indigenous knowledge, Indigenous art forms, crafts, and architectural styles.<\/li>\n
  4. Climate Change and Adaptation Strategies: Explore how indigenous communities cope with climate change and implement adaptive strategies based on their traditional knowledge.<\/li>\n
  5. Indigenous Agriculture and Food Systems: Investigate traditional agricultural practices, seed-saving techniques, and food sovereignty in Indigenous communities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The 1st TINGUG International Conference, as one of the significant scholarly activities of the Institute of Languages and Creative Arts of the College of Arts and Sciences, will serve as a platform for Indigenous peoples, researchers, communities, and organizations to showcase initiatives that support, promote, and develop their unique knowledge and practices. With a comprehensive approach featuring keynote speakers, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, the conference aims to foster collaboration and dialogue among scholars, practitioners, and community members. Through exhibitions and the sharing of IKSP Books 2 and 3, among other activities, the conference seeks to celebrate and ensure that Indigenous knowledge is recognized, valued, and integrated into global solutions for current and future challenges.<\/p>\n<\/div>
