In groundbreaking strides toward organizing the first international conference on indigenous knowledge, the Institute of Languages and Creative Arts (ILCA) housed a Capability-Building and Inception Workshop for the Project \u201cIndigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP) of Selected IP Groups in the Davao Region (Phase 3)\u201d on July 27-28, 2023, at Sotogrande Hotel Davao, Davao City.<\/p>\n
The workshop brought together a diverse group of faculty and staff from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Information and Computing, College of Development and Management, and Research and Development Division. Participants included Assoc. Prof. Sajed S. Ingilan, Assoc. Prof. Liza C. Asombrado, Asst. Prof. Angelo Lenard Yu, Mr. Khmer Griffin Alonzo, Ms. Reah Izza Paglinawan, Ms. Jenifer Tuban, and Asst. Prof. Junil Altes from the CAS; Mr. Hermoso Tupas from the CIC; and Ms. Kethelle Sajonia, representing the CDM. Additionally, Ms. Hannah Mae G. Lolong and Mr. Rey Kenneth Marces, both from the Research and Development Division, and the ILCA Staff, Ms. Jessa Joy Odog were among the enthusiastic participants who joined the workshop. The event aimed to upskill the IKSP Project Team, led by Mr. Francis N. Reginio, with the necessary knowledge and organization for hosting an impactful conference. During the activity, the members finalized the program design, conference theme, set of activities and presentations, committees, and timetable of the event. The participants were privileged to be joined and guided by experienced resource persons, via Zoom, who illuminated discussions on creative arts and cultural studies pertinent to the conference it constitutes<\/p>\n
Dr. Takashi Tsuji of Saga University in Japan initiated his discussions on Doing Cultural Studies in the Philippines. Additionally, Dr. Nasirin Abdillah of the Universiti Teknologi MARA in Malaysia shared his experiences in Doing Research in the Creative Arts. Project Leader Reginio extended an invitation to Dr. Aurelio Solver Agcaoili of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA, the founder of the US-based NAKEM Conference, adding valuable expertise and inspiration to the IKSP Team.<\/p>\n
The forthcoming international conference promises to bring together diverse scholars, experts, and luminaries in the field of indigenous knowledge, creating an avenue for collaborative discussions and cultural exchange to advance the boundaries of languages and creative arts.<\/p>\n
With the successful completion of the workshop, the ILCA marks the first step towards organizing a notable scholarly assembly, guaranteeing a milestone in the realms of literature, arts, and academia.<\/p>\n
TINGUG International Conference 2023, the official title for the conference, will set off on December 2023 with the theme, \u201cVoices of Ancestry: Safeguarding Indigenous Cultural Heritage and Oral Traditions\u201d. The call for papers and literary works will be announced in a few months, and the ILCA eagerly waits for everyone to participate in this conference.<\/p>\n
