The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) – Institute of Languages and Creative Arts (ILCA) (USeP) is gearing up for the TINGUG International Conference, a significant event that places a focus on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP). A recent quarterly meeting on March 22, 2024, addressed crucial aspects of the conference scheduled for October 2024, underlining its importance in the academic and cultural landscape.<\/p>\n
The meeting was a collaborative effort to ensure the success of the IKSP Book launching and the international conference. Participants representing various disciplines and divisions of USeP reviewed and updated the timeline for the project’s third phase, ensuring its continuous progress. The preparations for the TINGUG Conference were meticulously discussed, with the aim of a seamless and impactful event.<\/p>\n
Building upon the momentum of a successful workshop held in 2023, the IKSP Creative Works Team adopted “TINGUG International Conference 2024” as the official title of the event. The title underscores the conference’s core theme \u2013 Voices of Ancestry: Safeguarding Indigenous Cultural Heritage and Oral Traditions. Paper presentations, storytelling, music, dance, and other oral traditions will be central to the discussions, highlighting their vital role in preserving the identities and communities of indigenous peoples.<\/p>\n
The conference aligns with the University\u2019s vision of transforming communities by elevating awareness and understanding of indigenous knowledge systems within the Philippines. It will delve into these systems\u2019 status and trends, emphasizing their potential for achieving sustainable development and addressing contemporary challenges. Furthermore, the conference will serve as a platform for showcasing initiatives undertaken by indigenous peoples: their communities, and organizations – all dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the development of IKSP.<\/p>\n
The IKSP Creative Works Team, a dedicated group comprising faculty and staff from various colleges and divisions, is at the forefront of organizing the conference. Led by Mr. Francis N. Reginio, ILCA Head, the team brings together expertise from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the College of Information and Computing (CIC), the College of Development and Management (CDM), and the USeP Research and Development Division (RD&D).<\/p>\n
Among the leaders of the creative works are faculty members, to wit: Professor Catherine M. Roble; Associate Professors Sajed S. Ingilan and Liza C. Asombrado; Assistant Professors, Angelo Lenard E. Yu, Josephine May Grace A. Famoso, Junil A. Altes, including Mr. Khmer Griffin Alonzo, Ms. Reah Izza Paglinawan, and Ms. Jenifer R. Tuban from the CAS; Mr. Hermoso Tupas from the CIC, and Ms. Kethelle Sajonia, representing the CDM. Additionally, Ms. Hannah Mae G. Lolong and Mr. Rey Kenneth John G. Marces from the RD&D are complementing the team alongside the ILCA staff, Ms. Jessa Joy Odog.<\/p>\n
