With the theme “USeP@44: Synergizing Passion, Creativity, and Service towards Sustainable Transformation in the ASEAN and Beyond,” this year’s graduation ceremony honored 1,058 graduating students from various undergraduate programs who are about to embark on their journey towards a transformed future.
Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao, USeP President, delivered an inspiring message before the graduating class of 2023. ‘’Today, I want you to honor yourself – to recognize the efforts you’ve made to reach this point, all the times you fought and lost, and the moments you chose to stand your ground and refused to give up. It takes tremendous courage and strength to keep moving forward in the face of adversity. More than anyone else, you should be the ones who are proudest of your achievements.’’ Dr. Generalao expressed.
One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, who graced the occasion as the esteemed commencement speaker. Senator Go has emerged as a prominent figure in the country, spearheading impactful initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility and improving the overall quality of life for all Filipinos. His notable endeavors include the successful implementation of the Malasakit Centers program and the establishment of Super Health Centers.
“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in your lives filled with endless possibilities and opportunities. May you go forth from this day with courage in your hearts, knowledge in your minds, and a burning passion to make a difference,” Senator Go said.
His presence as the commencement speaker at USeP’s 44th Commencement Exercises served as an inspiration to the graduating students and the entire University community. Ms. Jellian H. Calipes, a distinguished graduate from the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science program of the College of Education delivered her Valedictory Address. Ms. Calipes recounted her life experiences from a family of farmers and expounded how her hope to alleviate poverty has become her strength and motivation to pursue a course in the University.
She expressed her gratitude on being a member of USeP, jokingly stated that the moniker of USeP as Unibersidad sa Estudyanteng Pobre, has become a beacon of light for someone like her and for dreamers from the less advantaged background to work on their aspiration. She encouraged her co-graduates to work on transforming communities through simple methods.
Moreover, one graduate from the College Education Behind Bars (CEBB) also achieved a personal milestone in the ceremony- demonstrating the power of education in transforming lives despite being a Person deprived of Liberty (PDL).
The 44th Commencement Exercises at USeP Obrero Campus marked a significant milestone, not only for the graduates but also for the entire University community. It symbolized the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. As these graduates venture into the world, let their accomplishments serve as a testament to the transformative power of education and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead when passion, creativity, and service converge.
