USeP produces first JD grads, re-confers degrees for Class of 2020 and 2021

Four years ago, the University has begun its dream to establish the USeP School of Law; now the University has produced its first Juris Doctor (JD) graduates!

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Obrero Campus celebrated a momentous event on June 30, 2023, as it held its 44th Commencement Exercises for the Graduate Programs and the Ceremonial Recognition of conferred degrees for 2021 and 2020 Graduates at the University Gymnasium and Cultural Center (UGCC) in Davao City.

Bearing the theme “USeP@44: Synergizing Passion, Creativity, and Service Towards Sustainable Transformation in the ASEAN and Beyond,” this year’s graduation ceremony honored the achievements of 166 graduating students from various graduate programs including two (2) graduates of JD program of the School of Law, as well as the re-conferment of degrees for the Class of 2020 and 2021. These remarkable individuals are poised to leave a lasting impact in their respective fields, contribute to sustainable development on a regional and global scale, and help the University in the attainment of the University vision of transforming communities.

Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao, USeP President, delivered an inspirational message to the Class of 2023 graduate programs. “Your journey has been marked by the pursuit of passion and the cultivation of creativity in your academic endeavors. I urge you to carry forward these attributes as you embark on your respective careers. However, beyond personal success, I implore you to foster a sense of service and commitment to sustainable transformation in your communities and beyond,” she expressed.

Dr. Generalao also took the opportunity to personally congratulate the Class of 2020 and 2021. “To our 2020 and 2021 graduates, I can finally say this in person: Congratulations on your graduation! This face-to-face ceremony for your batch is long overdue, but I am well aware of your excitement to walk down the aisle in your togas and caps, and to ceremoniously turn your tassels to symbolize the conferment of your degrees. I extend my gratitude for your patience and cooperation with the administration, which has made this moment possible.”

Dr. Marie Rose C. Escalada, a distinguished USeP alumna and the Labor Attaché at the Department of Migrant Workers, graced the occasion as the commencement speaker. In her speech, Dr. Escalada recounted her professional and personal journey before cultivating her passion of promoting the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). She has championed the protection and promotion of the rights and welfare of OFWs, from their deployment to their successful reintegration into society.

She also emphasized the importance of family to be the center in celebrations and moments of triumphs of an individual- in her own words, ‘your family will always be there to support you’. As a Filipino diplomat working abroad with her family left in the country, she said that the invitation to be the commencement speaker for USeP has provided her an opportunity to come home to her family to celebrate and share the stories she accumulated in Japan.

As these graduates embark on their respective professional journey, they carry with them the values and principles instilled in their academic stay at USeP. Their dedication, commitment, and unwavering spirit will serve as beacons of inspiration as they navigate the path towards sustainable development and transformation.

Congratulations to the USeP Obrero Campus Class of 2020, 2021, and 2023! May your passion, creativity, and dedication continue to drive you towards sustainable transformation in the ASEAN and beyond.

Soar high, Agilas!
