USeP’s participation in the SUC Fair 2023 is indeed fruitful!
With the conclusion of the SUC Fair 2023 on July 13, 2023, hosted by the West Visayas State University (WVSU) at Iloilo City, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conferred two (2) special awards to the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), to wit: Best Education Product – “Brailliance”; and Best Scientific Product- “Coco Climber”, and recognized the University’s contribution to the advancement of higher education in the country.
Moreover, Ms. Sarrah Mae V. Priagola, faculty of the College of Teacher Education and Technology, bagged second place in the Technology and Innovation Pitching as part of the Fair on Innovation, Research, and Extension Services (F.I.R.E.S.) of the SUC Fair 2023.
The conduct of the SUC Fair 2023 is a reminder for the University to remain steadfast in its pursuit of academic excellence, research breakthroughs and transformative innovation as USeP seeks to position itself as a leading institution in transforming lives and communities in Mindanao, ASEAN, and beyond.
Special Awards: Brailliance and Coco Climber
In line with the University’s goal of promoting inclusive education and her personal advocacy, Ms. Priagola designed Braillance: Modified Braille, an improved version of Louis Braille’s original tactile writing system for visually impaired individuals. Brailliance makes the transition from pre-Braille (big) to standard Braille (small) that’s easy for readers.
Braillance is protected and registered as an Industrial Design by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. According to the Knowledge Technology and Transfer Division (KTTD) of the University, Braillance is already adopted by one academic institution in Mindanao.
Coco Climber is a mechanical device that helps coconut climbers avoid common injuries due to the traditional methods of coconut climbing. It can be recalled that Coco Climber, pitched by Engr. Ryan Abenoja, was heralded as the grand pitch winner of the 2022 Agri-Aqua Innovation Pitch Fest (AIPF) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
CocoClimber is a DOST-funded project under the CRADLE program implemented by the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences (CARS) with innovators as follows: Engr. Ryan Abenoja, Dr. Roger Monteptio, Engr. Ruel Toyugon, Engr. Roland Bayron, and Engr. Lourenze Karl Lanticse. At present, CocoClimber is undergoing licensing negotiations with the Cocolink Industry Cluster and Franklin Baker.
