This year’s Uniwide Intramurals 2023 of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) dubbed as ‘Hudyaka 2023’ with the theme, “Celebrating USePian Victories in the Face of Adversity”, officially kicked off with a bang at the USeP-Obrero Campus, Davao City.
After three (3) years of suspended conduct of face-to-face Intramurals, the annual intramurals of USeP have become more fun and more colorful with the attendance and participation of the students from the USeP Malabog Extension Campus (MEC), which was launched in June 2022.
Students from colleges and schools across University campuses and units participated in the opening parade around the University. The opening ceremony was graced with the attendance of Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Tamara Cher R. Mercado, Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance; several college deans, and teaching and non-teaching personnel of the University.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Gabales stated that this year’s intramurals is a long-awaited event that marked the return to face-to-face and onsite activities after the three (3) long years of the COVID-19 pandemic. “For the past three (3) years, we have faced many obstacles that have forced us to adapt and innovate to ensure our safety and well-being. Despite the difficulties, we have emerged stronger, more united, and more determined than ever to pursue our goals and aspirations,” he said.
“As we celebrate this comeback, let us cherish every moment and enjoy every activity. Let us take this opportunity to foster not only your skills but also camaraderie, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Most importantly, let us have fun and create memories that will last a lifetime,” he added.
Moreover, Dr. Mercado delivered the inspirational message of the University President, Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao. She conveyed the President’s joy of seeing the University grounds festive once more with students showcasing talents and athleticism. “Let the intramurals be an avenue to showcase your talents and explore untapped potentials. Seize the opportunity to excel in the field you haven’t tried yet. Make new friends, renew forgotten friendships, and most of all, practice the value of sportsmanship,” she said.
“In the face of defeat, remember that you are a USePian; and it would take more than a minor setback to let you down. Whatever the results, the University is fortunate to have intelligent and talented individuals in our community,” she added highlighting the importance of striving to embody the University’s core values.

The University Student Government (USG) in collaboration with the USeP Obrero Student Council spearheaded the conduct of Intramurals 2023 which features competitions in esports, interactive sports, academics, arts, and innovations. Hudyaka is a Cebuano term meaning merriment or revelry.
