RDE launches first info caravan at CoE

On November 15, 2024, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (OVPRDE) launched its first information caravan at the College of Engineering (CoE). This initiative aims to enhance communication and provide essential updates regarding RDE activities and opportunities within the college.

The event was spearheaded by VPRDE Dr. Roger C. Montepio. He was joined by key figures in the RDE including Knowledge and Technology Transfer Division (KTTD) Director Dr. Karl P. Campos, Extension Division Director Dr. Roby V. Pagong, and Publication Unit Deputy Director Dr. Randy A. Tudy.

CoE Dean Dr. Dalia M. Reconalla opened the caravan with a warm message of appreciation towards the RDE Team. She emphasized the importance of establishing a platform for open discussions about RDE-related matters- highlighting its relevance in fostering collaboration and innovation within the college.

During the session, Dr. Montepio presented a detailed overview of the college’s contribution to the RDE goals, emphasizing how these efforts align with the University’s broader mission. He encouraged faculty members to actively support RDE initiatives, stressing the critical role that collective participation plays in achieving tangible results.

Dr. Campos took the opportunity to elaborate on the services offered by KTTD outlining the resources available to the USeP community, particularly in the matters of intellectual property (IP) application and potential funding sources. He provided specific examples on how the division has successfully assisted other departments, motivating attendees to take advantage of these available services.

Dr. Pagong followed with a succinct explanation of the processes involved in managing extension programs, projects, and activities. She stressed that the true measure of success of extension projects should be based on their social impact and the benefits they bring to partner communities rather than simply focusing on the number of projects initiated.

Ms. Rica M. Bardinas, representing Research and Development Division Director Dr. Merlina H. Juruena, elaborated on the procedures for managing research programs and projects at both the college and school levels. She provided insights into the process for securing internal and external funding, detailing the steps required to submit proposals successfully.

The information caravan also served as an interactive forum, allowing attendees to raise various questions related to RDE matters. The discourse led to valuable insights and solutions, updates, and notes for improvement.

Overall, the information caravan proved to be an effective platform for disseminating vital knowledge and bridging the information gap regarding RDE efforts. It not only addressed pressing concerns of CoE but also fostered a collaborative spirit aimed at enhancing research and development practices within the institution.
