An icon of a soaring eagle, a burst of lights, and a message sent to thousands marked the kick-off of the 46th Founding Anniversary celebration of the University of Southeastern Philippines, dubbed as “Pagpupugay” on December 2, 2024. The event highlighted modern innovation and cherished traditions, reflecting the University’s ongoing commitment to excellence, diversity, and community impact.
Bearing the theme, “USeP@46: Fostering Excellence, Embracing Diversity, and Transforming Communities”, this year’s anniversary celebration emphasizes the University’s continued commitment as a premier research institution serving the ASEAN region and beyond to transform lives and communities.
Pagpupugay was graced by University officials, faculty, students, staff, and stakeholders from across the USeP community.
In his address, USeP President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr. lauded the University’s accomplishments over the decades, underscoring milestones that have cemented USeP’s reputation as a forerunner in higher education. He emphasized the event’s dual focus on honoring past achievements and launching innovations to propel the institution forward.
Among the key highlights of the kick-off were the unveiling of SePhi, USeP’s newest icon, and the launch of the USeP Text Broadcast System dubbed as U-Text, both of which showcased the University’s futures-thinking initiatives aimed at improving connectivity, engagement, and visibility.
SePhi: A Symbol of Excellence and Growth
The introduction of SePhi marked a milestone in USeP’s history as the first trademark to be commercialized. Inspired by the Philippine Eagle, the icon symbolizes strength, resilience, and the aspiration to rise above challenges. First launched in 2023 as an intelligent chatbot designed to enhance stakeholder engagement, SePhi has since evolved into a trademarked symbol of USeP’s excellence.
On November 27, 2024, USeP formalized a trademark licensing agreement with GMP Conglomerate Corporate Office Services, enabling the commercialization of SePhi-branded merchandise. The unveiling of the 6×5 ft SePhi standee, representing USeP’s ideals, was met with excitement and pride, signifying a new chapter in the University’s journey.
Enhancing Communication Through Technology
In another display of innovation, USeP launched its new Text Broadcast System also known as U-Text. This communication tool was designed to deliver timely updates and announcements to the University community. Developed collaboratively by the Public Affairs Division (PAD), Systems Development and Management Division (SDMD), and faculty and students from the College of Information and Computing (CIC), the system reflects USeP’s commitment to transparent and efficient governance.
To commemorate the launch, attendees received the system’s inaugural message: “Celebrating decades of excellence, diversity, and community transformation. Happy 46th Founding Anniversary, USeP! Here’s to more years of growth and success!”
Lighting the Season with Unity and Sustainability
The evening’s festivities concluded with the simultaneous lighting of Christmas trees across all USeP campuses. These eco-friendly decorations, crafted by students, faculty, and staff, symbolize the University’s dedication to sustainability. The trees serve as a beacon of hope, unity, and resilience as the University community embraces the holiday season.
The Pagpupugay served as the opening act for a series of activities lined up for USeP’s 46th Founding Anniversary celebration. As highlighted by Dr. Gabales, this year’s celebration is a time to reflect on the University’s legacy, take pride in its present achievements, and look forward to an even brighter future.
