As a cultural melting pot, the nation is home to a myriad of languages. However, it faces the challenge of preserving endangered ones, including Kalagan and Isamal, which hold cultural significance. This issue is explored in the eleventh article in the SPJRD September 2024 issue titled, “The Development of Kalagan and Isamal Linguistics: An Archival Research”, authored by Jessa Jane Iglesia and Sajed Ingilan from the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP).
The authors collaborated with Saeed Al Qumairi of the University of Nizwa in Oman to explore the status and development of Kalagan and Isamal linguistics from 1885 to the present. The study highlights the alarming trend of language endangerment and emphasizes the urgent need to safeguard and preserve these languages. Moreover, the importance of this article lies in the advocacy for preserving linguistic diversity as a vital component of cultural heritage.
