The Institute of Languages and Creative Arts (ILCA) is set to captivate readers with its upcoming release of another book project under the Mindanao Center for Policy Studies (MCPS) of the College of Development and Management (CDM) titled “PANUMTUMAN: Anthology of 21st Century Bangsamoro Literature,โ€ sponsored by a grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

PANUMTUMAN is a Bahasa Sug word that translates to ‘memory’ or ‘remembrance.’ This book publication represents the continuing literary production of Bangsamoro writers in the 21st century. It has provided a platform for marginalized and underrepresented voices, expanding the literary discourse in the country. These works offer perspectives and insights that challenge the dominant narratives found in mainstream Philippine literature, enriching the collective understanding of the nationโ€™s diverse cultural heritage. By shedding light on the Bangsamoro’s cultural, social, and political realities, writers have redefined the boundaries of Philippine literature, making it more inclusive and representative of the nationโ€™s diversity.

Gutierrez โ€˜Tengโ€™ Mangsansakan II serves as the book’s editor. He is a writer, editor, translator, and filmmaker from Pagalungan, Maguindanao. His essays, poems, and short stories have graced the pages of numerous journals, anthologies, and magazines locally and internationally. Notably, he is the editor of the groundbreaking anthology of essays by young Moro writers titled “Children of the Ever-Changing Moon” and “The Rays of the Invisible Light: Collected Works of Young Moro Writers.” Director Teng expressed, โ€˜We are also constantly defining Moro-ness in our writing through the utility of the vernacular language in our work, as well as drawing inspiration from traditional forms of our diverse ethnic backgrounds in producing contemporary literary work.โ€™

The Team is excited to introduce PANUMTUMAN: Anthology of 21st Century Bangsamoro Literature to readers seeking literary works with diverse cultural, social, and political perspectives. For further details regarding the book launch event, we encourage you to stay updated by following us.
