Dr. Savski, a distinguished scholar from Lancaster University, has made significant contributions to the field of language policy. His work focuses on the intricate power dynamics within linguistic strategies and educational frameworks. He is an Associate Professor at Prince of Songkla University in Thailand.
Throughout his doctoral research, Dr. Savski explored the ideological struggles surrounding language policy in Slovenia, highlighting the challenges to hegemonic nationalist ideologies. His work, recognized for its depth and academic rigor, delves into government texts, media articles, and parliamentary sessions, supplemented by interviews with key policy figures. His findings have been published in respected journals such as Language Policy, Current Issues in Language Planning, and the Journal of Language and Politics, as well as in collections by Palgrave MacMillan and Edward Elgar.
Since moving to Thailand, Dr. Savski has continued to examine language policy, extending his research to encompass the global impacts of English language education and the complex relationship between globalization and language policy. He has conducted pioneering research on appropriating the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in Thailand and Malaysia, critically assessing its application and the challenges ELT practitioners face.
Dr. Savski’s recent work includes a groundbreaking study on racial inequality and teacher migration, published in TESOL Quarterly, and ongoing research into linguistic borders and resistance to hegemonic racial ideologies. His collaboration with Luke Comprendio on migrant teachersโ€™ experiences with racial inequality further underscores his commitment to addressing pressing societal issues through scholarly inquiry.
In addition to his primary research interests, Dr. Savski has written on the linguistic landscape in Thailand, the implementation of English-medium instruction in minority language communities, and media debates on language policy in Slovenia, contributing valuable insights to the discourse on language and power.
We look forward to Dr. Savski sharing his expertise and insights at the 1st TINGUG International Conference, enriching our discussions with his extensive research and unique language policy and education perspectives.
