We are excited to introduce Dr. Nasirin Abdillah as one of the plenary speakers for the upcoming 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐆 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, scheduled for 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟒-𝟐𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒, at the 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥, 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 and via 𝐙𝐨𝐨𝐦.

Yang Berbahagia Dr. Nasirin Abdillah is an associate professor of writing at the College of Creative Arts (CCA), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and an MA in English Literature from the University of Malaya (UM). He also has a PhD in Creative Arts specializing in Creative Writing from the University of Wollongong (UOW), Australia. Nasirin has written numerous research papers and creative works, especially in poetry. He has won several writing accolades, mostly in poetry, particularly in Australia. During his doctoral studies, his poem “The Sunset Market” won ‘Poem of the Week’ in May 2012 on australianpoetry.org. He was also an invited assessor for the National Literature Policy of Malaysia in 2019. In December 2022, he was honored with recognition for outstanding literary achievement and involvement, an honorific title of Munsyi, or Munshi in English, which is a Persian word derived from Arabic that is used as a respected title for a person who has achieved mastery over the Malay language and literature, despite his educational backgrounds which mostly related to English language and literature. This honor was conferred by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Malaysia or the Institute of Language and Literature Malaysia.

With his passion for literature and cultural studies, Dr. Abdillah shared his expertise as a visiting International lecturer at the Language and Literature Program of the College of Arts and Sciences. Known for his expertise in Bahasa Melayu, he enriches the program’s offerings by introducing students to the introduction of Southeast Asian language. Beyond his academic contributions, he currently serves as one of the valuable Board of Advisers of the Southeastern Philippines Journal for Research and Development (SPJRD), lending his insights to scholarly publications.
