Dr. Shore is a seasoned academic with a rich and diverse career spanning over two decades. Initially based in Adelaide, she dedicated 23 years to adult education at the University of South Australia, where she focused on supporting First Nations people and mature-aged learners. Her commitment to these marginalized groups has been consistent throughout her academic journey.
Drawing upon her work experiences in various industries, including textiles, horticulture, and hospitality, Dr. Shore shaped a keen understanding of power dynamics and workplace realities, often characterized by uneven pay and working conditions, particularly for women. These early encounters continue to inform her research and teaching in the field of education.
She served as the Inaugural Director of the International Graduate Centre of Education in the College of Education and the Inaugural Chair of the Community of Associate Deans Research in Education (CADRE – Australia). Additionally, she was a member of the Executive of the Australian Council of Deans of Education. She specializes in research capacity building focusing on theorizing practices that connect knowledge, teaching, and learning in workplace settings, professional environments, and within communities. Her research mainly investigates how institutional reforms can support the aspirations of diverse individuals, locations, partnerships, and programs. She has worked on several projects managed by La Trobe University, which explore the higher education experiences of military veterans and the initiatives to enhance low socio-economic status (SES) engagement at universities.
Dr. Shore holds qualifications in science and postgraduate education. Her publications can be found in reputable outlets such as Routledge, SUNY Press, Studies in Higher Education, and the Australian Educational Researcher. As an Adjunct Professor at Charles Darwin University, she re-entered university many years ago as a โclassicโ mature-aged learner, working part-time, growing and sustaining a family, and progressing (slowly) through a part-time graduate diploma in a master’s and a doctoral program.
