Greetings!

As we move forward in our endeavors, the current University Administration remains deeply committed to strengthening our unwavering dedication and support for the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) students through the University of Southeastern Philippines-Malabog Extension Campus (USeP-MEC) situated in Paquibato District, Davao City.

We firmly believe in the power of education for peacebuilding during the post-conflict period to sustain our gains. The establishment of USeP-MEC in 2022 is a manifestation of the University's commitment to contribute to the peacebuilding initiatives and development programs of the Government, particularly in Region XI. The presence of USeP-MEC will enable Indigenous Peoples (IPs) youth to cultivate their mindset and become self-reliant, responsible citizens.

USeP is devoted to continuing the provision of culturally sensitive higher education to preserve the cultural heritage of IPs, promote inclusive tertiary education, and foster socioeconomic development while championing peace and growth for communities situated in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).

As wisely articulated by Edward Everett, "Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army." Undoubtedly, education is a crucial tool for addressing conflicts peacefully and effectively. It is heartening to note the increasing number of senior high school students since the inception of USeP-MEC, indicating a hopeful trend among Indigenous Peoples (IPs) youth towards higher education. Our aspiration is for a future where children are not recruited and radicalized, and USeP stands as a dynamic force for positive change within the community.

To ensure the continuity of our initiatives, plans are underway for the construction of an academic facility for USeP-MEC, which holds great promise for improving educational facilities. We aspire to see these endeavors soon realized, serving as the foundation for fostering an environment conducive to learning, innovation, and growth. With this infrastructure development, we aim to extend our reach and impact, aspiring to serve more communities in proximity. By bridging gaps and reaching out to these communities, we hope to make a tangible difference in the lives of many.

As a state-run university, at the heart of our mission lies the core competency of the University which is to provide innovative and inclusive quality education. We believe in the transformative power of the University for our communities, shaping a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive despite socioeconomic background.

We, in the USeP Administration, would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners whose unwavering commitment and support have been instrumental in establishing MEC. None of this would be possible without our partners including the City Government of Davao; Commission on Higher Education- Regional Office (CHED-RO) XI; Department of Education (DepEd) ROXI; Barangay Officials from Brgy. Malabog and Paquibato; teaching and non-teaching staff of Paquibato National High School (PNHS); PEACE 911 of Davao City; Department of Science and Technology- Davao Region (DOST XI); and members of Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs). Their dedication has been instrumental in the establishment and sustainability of MEC, and together, we will continue to create educational opportunities that transcend boundaries and transform lives and communities.
