Open to the public, the USeP-KDC offers easy access to a wealth of information through the Internet and a diverse collection of World Bank publications and other development-related publications to students, researchers, NGOs, media, government agencies, and business firms.

 

In line with our institution’s vision and programs and using the resources in our community, including the KDCs, we undertake to share information, facilitate the exchange of experiences, and organize the appropriate fora for meaningful and informed discussions of development issues.

The World Bank in the Phphoca_thumb_l_IMG_1826ilippines is preparing the 2012 Philippine Development Report (PDR). The PDR discusses key development issues and proposes recommendations as input to policy making. The 2012 PDR aims to support the agenda of the Aquino Administration in attaining more inclusive growth as elaborated in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2011-2016. The focus of this year’s PDR is creating more and better jobs.

 

As part of World Bank’s preparatory work, the University of Southeastern Philippines conducted the second phase of consultations held last May, 31, 2012, Thursday, at the USeP Social Hall. The said consultation covered an expanded set of topics including growth and employment, poverty, labor and social protection policy, migration, and rural development.

 

Some USeP Faculties from the College of Technology, College of Education, School of Applied Economics, and College of Governance and Business participated in the said Labor Consultation.

 

The purpose of the consultation was to present the preliminary findings and analysis and options for reform, and to get stakeholder feedback in improving the final report. The draft benefitted from inputs of various stakeholders in the first round of consultations held last November 2011 to February 2012. The report will be shared with the government as input to its policy work and will be presented at the Philippine Development Forum in late 2012. It will also be made available to public.

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP in Partnership with Transparency and Accountability Network (TAN) conducted the 3 day training on “Community participation in Procurement Training” to first batch of Barangay officials coming from 22 barangays of Sta. Maria Municipality, Davao del sur. Topics that were presented focused on: overview of the Procurement Law, Community participation, social accountability, role of civil society in the process of procurement. Five professors from USEP who have been given trainors training by Worldbank – Manila served as the lecturers of the said training.

SeptembKDC team attended seminar and trainings for the incoming TAN project_2er 24-28, 2013

 

GPPB Training of Trainers on the Government Procurement Reform Act and Its Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR), the Philippine Bidding Documents, Foreign Procurement and The Philippine Government Electronic Procurement Service.This was held at the Green Hills E’lan Hotel Modern, San Juan City ,Metro Manila.

 

The Objectives of the said training provided the participants with comprehensive understanding of procurement laws and its IRR., and trained them in the use of PhilGEPS and informed the participants on the latest issuances of the GPPB.

 

The BAC Chairman Dr. Annweda Mina, Technical Working Group and Finance director, Ms. Liz Faunillan and The BAc Member Restituta Macarayo attended the said training in preparation for the incoming TAN project between TAN and the University of southeastern Philippines.

Video Conference session on Vocational training and Economic Development, Hosted by Korea Development Institute-School of Public Policy and Management and the World Bank Tokyo Development Learning Center.

 

The objective of this session is to highlight the importance of HRD in general and vocational training in particular for economic growth, through the best practices of vocational education development. The participants will learn how vocational training could contribute to promoting sustainable and broad-based development of a country.

 

Vocational training, in particular, not only plays a vital role in individual, organizational and overall national economic growth, but also is an integral part of human resource development in Asia and Pacific countries. Vocational training may be defined as a process to acquire and sharpen capabilities to perform various functions associated with employment or successfully carrying out tasks in the workplace.

 

An educated and skilled workforce is one of the pillars of the knowledge-based economy beyond region. Increasingly, comparative advantages among nations come less from natural resources or cheap labor, and more from technical innovations and the competitive use of knowledge. Studies also link education to economic growth: education contributes to improved productivity which in theory should lead to higher income and improved economic performance.

 

Most of the participants in the said event were the College faculty of the College of Technology. They were enlightened as to how they can improve their Vocational technology curriculum after engaging themselves to the open forum.

Reforming the Disaster Risk managementJune 11, 2012

 

This video conferencing highlighted the key reforms and features of Disaster Risk Reduction Management Framework in the Philippines: and presented a case study on Albay LGU which was among the advanced in DRRM policies and Practices.

 

The target audience of the learning session were the national and local government staff, development partners, the academia and other stakeholders engaged in disaster risk management in the Philippines.

 

Participants invited in the said conferencing were the director of civil defense, Chief meteorological officer District commander coast guard of souteastern Mindanao,, DILG regional director DOST director NEDA regional director and University directors.

 

This Video conferencing included potential connecting sites from Luzon that included World Bank Manila.,Ateneo de Naga, Bicol University, in the Visayas the Central Philippine University and Silliman and in Mindanao the KDC of USEP.

phoca_thumb_l_IMG_1825Last May 31, 2012, Thursday, the World Bank team composed of Phil Karp, Mathy Vanbuel, Henry Grageda, and Aubrey Bualat-Trinidad visited University of Southeastern Philippines and the KDC to conduct interviews regarding the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN). According to the Communications Officer, Ms. Moira Everva, of the East Asia and Pacific Region, the University of Southeastern Philippines signified interest to participate in the technical and institutional capacity and needs assessment for a country distance learning network that can affiliate with the Global Development Learning Network, or GDLN.

 

In line with the said visit, the team requested the KDC to coordinate the following:

 

Interview with the University President and VP for Academic Affairs/Planning. The World Bank team is interested to know the strategic plans of the university towards a-learning /distance learning. Interview with the appropriate research center/ graduate school/ international programs director, on prospective learning programs delivered online and unit capacity in distance learning program coordination.

 

Interview with KDC Coordinator and IT technical staff on specific technical configuration of KDC. Interview with ICT Director/ChiefTechnology Officer on the technical profile of the university, including current and planned infrastructure configurations. Ocular inspection of a proposed video-conference room that may/may not be the KDC. This room ideally fits 20 to 30 learners, located at ground level or with sufficient facilities to accommodate PWDs, with acceptable acoustics (=< Noise Criteria Curve 35) and preferably, the ability to block incoming light.
