Centered on the theme “Glocalizing the Halal Goat Industry,” USeP hosts the first-ever Halal Goat FIESTA from October 16-18, 2019. The activity focused on the strategies and interventions of making halal goat technologies and products available in the local and global markets. The opening program of this three-day celebration was held at the University of Southeastern Philippines Social Hall in Bo. Obrero, Davao City.
This national event is spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARD) together with the different regional research consortia particularly the Cotabato Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (CAARDEC), Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC), Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC), Cagayan Valley Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Research and Development (CVAARRD) and Central Luzon Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research and Development Consortium (CLAARDEC).
Some national and local government officials were in attendance during the opening ceremonies. Dr. Anthony C. Sales, the Regional Director of DOST – XI and sitting Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC) Chair, delivered the welcome remarks. Dr. Rolando F. Hechanova, RRDCC Chair, CAARDEC and President of Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) was also present during the activity. Dr. Hechanova delivered the opening remarks while Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, the Executive Director of PCAARRD, Councilor Danilo A. Dayanghirang, representing Davao City Mayor Hon. Sara Duterte-Carpio and Dir. Norhaida M. Lumaan of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) Director of Region 11, gave their respective inspiring messages.
The Halal Goat FIESTA consists of four parts: the business forum, the technology forum, the educational tour and the Pocket Activities where the celebrity chef, Chef Boy Logro showcased his cooking skills in a cooking demonstration show.
