UH1 SHOFAR wins award at the 2020 NICE


High Meridian Technologies (HMT), an industry partner, and USeP-collaborated innovation, UH1 SHOFAR: Mass Notification System for Local Disasters, won first place in the LIKHA category (Outstanding Creative Research) of the 2020 National Invention Contest & Exhibit (NICE) organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) last March 3-5, 2020 held at SM Aura Premier, Taguig City.

UH1 SHOFAR is an information and communication technology-based early warning system that allows the local disaster risk reduction management office in providing quick remote alarm, clear surveillance and real-time information and instruction to the community. The system is composed of an air-raid alarm system, public address system, surveillance system and bulk short message service (SMS) system that provides widest dissemination of disaster-related information. It is envisioned to increase the capacity of the DRRM offices in preparing, mitigating and responding to disasters.

The following innovators are King Francis Genilla (HMT), Brianne Bingil (HMT), Ronel Yap (HMT) and Filmann Simpao (USeP). Shofar team is an incubatee of USeP-AGILab TBI.

This technology was adopted by LGUs Talaingod, Davao del Norte and San Fernando, Bukidnon and in USeP Obrero campus.
