USeP, STUST ink MoU for research, collaboration


Committed to realizing its vision of transforming communities in the ASEAN and beyond by engaging with vigorous internationalization efforts and thrusts, the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), through the International Affairs Division (IAD), entered into an understanding with the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) on September 13, 2022, at SEDA Abreeza Hotel, Davao City.

Being the first occasion to conduct a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a limited face-to-face engagement, the MoU signing was attended by officials of the STUST led by Dr. Teng-Mao Lu, STUST President. Together with Dr. Lu were Dr. Te-Kuang Chou, STUST Vice President and Dean of the Office of International Affairs; and Dr. Aaron See, STUST Division Director- Office of International Affairs.

The USeP delegation was led by Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao, USeP President. With her were Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr., USeP Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Maria Luisa B. Faunillan, USeP Vice President for Administration; Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva, USeP Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension; Dr. Tamara Cher R. Mercado, USeP Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance; Dr. Reynaldo M. Nogodula, Officer-in-Charge of IAD/Dean of the College of Education (CEd).

The ceremonial MoU signing was also witnessed by Dr. Alma Mae G. Salinas, College of Technology (CT) Dean; Dr. Dalia M. Reconalla, College of Engineering (CoE) Dean; Dr. Ivy Kim D. Machica and Dr. Randy S. Gamboa, College of Information and Computing (CIC) Dean and Senior Faculty, respectively.

Dr. Generalao in her message thanked STUST for accepting the invitation for collaboration. She also reiterated that “one way for the University to move forward is through internationalization”.

She also said internationalization opens more opportunities for cross-border education and other transnational aims.

Sharing that it is his first time in the Philippines, Dr. Lu expressed his excitement and his utmost hopes and prayers that this partnership with the University will be fruitful and mutually advantageous for both institutions in developing scientific and technological exchanges through research and collaborations.

Dr. Lu also shared that STUST is an institution he is proud of due to its outstanding educational environment that demonstrates academic excellence in both technological fields and humanities.

A Fellowship Night concluded the signing ceremony where officials from STUST and USeP shared their respective unique cultures and discussed potential areas of collaboration.
