USeP becomes one of four CDIO collaborators in the country; first in Davao Region

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) is officially a Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) Collaborator!

USeP becomes a member of the international CDIO network during the three-day CDIO 2023 Asian Regional Meeting with the theme, “Growing Partnership, Growing CDIO,” held on October 9-11, 2023, at Bulacan State University in Malolos, Bulacan.

With the CDIO membership, USeP is among the four (4) distinguished universities in the country and the first in the Davao Region to be part of this international network, setting an example for excellence in engineering education. This achievement boosts USeP’s global standing and showcases its unwavering dedication to the highest academic collaboration and innovation standards. Moreover, this acceptance to the network reaffirms the University’s dedication to producing industry-ready engineering graduates, especially in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.

USeP President Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao pushed for this initiative by appointing a focal person and forming a committee to spearhead the University’s CDIO program led by Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr.

Under the guidance of Dr. Gabales, the USeP team included Curriculum and Instruction Office (CIO) Director and Office of the Advanced Studies (OAS) Dean Dr. Jeneifer C. Nueva; CDIO Head Dr. Joie D. Cataytay; College of Engineering (CoE) Dean Dr. Dalia M. Reconalla; Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) Program Head Dr. Roger C. Montepio; and BSABE Faculty Engr. Teofilo U. Sevilla Jr. The Management is also grateful to Dr. Angel V. De Vera Jr., who worked with Dr. Gabales when CDIO was first introduced to the University.

Approximately 100 delegates from ten (10) different countries participated in the event. The gathering featured exchanges of knowledge and best practices among experts; only three (3) outstanding institutions from Thailand, India, and the Philippines were honored with the prestigious title – Collaborator.

The CDIO™ INITIATIVE is an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of engineers. The framework provides students with an education highlighting engineering fundamentals set in the context of CDIO real-world systems and products.

Becoming Davao Region’s first is indeed a milestone!
