The University extends its warmest congratulations to Joshiah Glenn P. Nanong, a first-year Bachelor of Science in Mathematics student from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), who is hailed as the Regional Champion during the recently held 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz Regional Championship.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) organized the national annual contest in collaboration with the Philippine Statistical Association Inc. on November 10, 2023, at the Acacia Hotel, Davao City.
Nanong bested 33 other participants from different universities and colleges from various provinces, cities, and municipalities across the Davao Region. As the Regional Champion, he will also advance to the National Championship, representing Region 11 on December 7, 2023, in Metro Manila. Behind the scenes, Nanong was with his coach Victor Paul J. dela Cruz, a USeP-CAS Mathematics and Statistics Department faculty member, who provided him with mentorship and guidance to excel in the competition.
On November 21, 2023, together with CAS Dean Dr. Eveyth P. Deligero; Bachelor of Science in Statistics Program Head, Assistant Professor Anthony F. Capili; Mr. dela Cruz, and Nanong paid a courtesy call with University President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr.
Dr. Gabales lauded Nanong for his determination to secure the championship and for bringing pride to the University. He also appreciated the CAS faculty members’ invaluable guidance and support, significantly contributing to Nanong’s success.
The University would also like to acknowledge the commendable efforts of other USeP students: James Ga-as, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science major in Data Science student from the College of Information and Computing (CIC), who clinched the fourth spot, and Jan Laurence Guieb, a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering student from the College of Engineering (CoE) for representing the University.
