USeP launches School of Medicine facilities


The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) officially launched the state-of-the art facilities of the School of Medicine (SOM) in USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus, Tagum Unit on June 14, 2024.

These facilities are the Anatomy Laboratory that features high quality anatomical specimen, cadaver lab equipment, and cutting-edge imaging technology to enhance understanding of the human anatomy; Simulation Laboratories equipped with high-fidelity mannequins, interactive patient monitors, and a wide range of medical instruments to provide hands-on training and simulate realistic medical scenarios; and Library that offers vast collection of medical literature and study rooms for self-directed and collaborative learning.

The momentous event brought together the USeP Board of Regents (BOR), University officials, faculty, staff, students, and various partner-stakeholders. Rev. Fr. Jestoni Llanera officiated the blessing ceremony.

University President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr. welcomed the guests and participants to the launching he described as “a significant step forward in the commitment to provide accessible, high-quality, and affordable medical education to deserving low-income students.”

Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, Commission on Higher Education Commissioner and Chair-Designate of USeP-BOR, extended his congratulations to USeP for the milestone that attests the cooperation and coordination between CHED and SUCs as they pursue their developmental roles in the service of the community and its learners. USeP-BOR Chairperson Darilag challenged the SOM community to continuously upskill their abilities and competencies, facilitate critical thinking among learners, engage in research, actualize innovative approaches, and provide solution-based outcomes.

Messages of unwavering support to the SOM and USeP in general were also given by Dr. Annabelle P. Yumang, Regional Director of the Department of Health XI; Dr. Arnel D. Florendo, City Health Officer of Tagum City, on behalf of Hon. Rey T. Uy, Mayor of Tagum City; and Hon. Emerson L. Luego, Mayor of the Municipality of Mabini.

Also present in the event were former USeP President Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao, Assistant Regional Director for Research and Development for Development Innovation Division of the Department of Science and Technology XI Mayan Jane J. Inni, Tagum Doctor’s College AVP for Academics Rey Anthony S. Perez, and Information Center Manager of the Philippine Information Agency Davao del Norte Jeanevive D. Abangan.

Dean Victoria P. Guillano with the SoM faculty and Staff, together with TMC Chancellor Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva and her staff, and the working committees worked hard to ensure the success of the event.

The USeP Top Management and the entire School of Medicine express our utmost gratitude to Senator Pia Cayetano for her tireless efforts and undying support to improve the facilities of SoM. USeP-SoM is the first and currently the only state-run medical school in Region XI.
