The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) kicked off its 45th Commencement Exercises in the Tagum-Mabini Campus, Tagum Unit in the morning of June 26, 2024. The event conferred degrees to 208 undergraduate and 14 graduates from the College of Teacher Education and Technology and College of Engineering.
Anchoring in the theme “Transforming Lives and Communities: The USeP’s Legacy of Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development over 45 Years,” University President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr. challenged the graduates to use their degrees to help others and be good citizens of this country. “Your education and passion for dedication have the power to transform lives and communities and to drive positive change in the world,” Pres. Gabales emphasized.
The commencement address was given by Dr. Janette G. Veloso, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of the Davao del Norte Division, and an alumna of USeP earning her Doctor of Education in Educational Management and Planning degree in 2010. An accomplished educator and a dedicated career service officer, Dr. Veloso stressed the importance of equity as a diving force in breaking any problem or cycle of poverty that will eventually create sustainable policies or even proactive social programs. She said, “The core is to serve the people. When we embrace such inclusive view, we can easily integrate ourselves to the issues and concerns of our marginalized groups or even the people that are to be led by us.”
Ms. Darleen T. Tanguan, magna cum laude graduate from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) program, delivered the valedictory address for the Class of 2024 in the Tagum-Mabini Campus, Tagum Unit. The pledge of loyalty to the University was led by Ms. Maryvelle T. Tambis, also a magna cum laude graduate of the BEED.
Hon. Antonio M. Faunillan, Jr., President of the University Alumni Federation and member of the USeP Board of Regents, administered the oath taking of the graduates as new members of the alumni organization.
