October is National Mental Health Month, and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) recognizes that the quality of service it delivers to its stakeholders hinges on the community members’ physical and mental health.
To advocate for raising awareness and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health, the University, through the University Assessment and Guidance Center (UAGC), in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), the Human Resource Management Division (HRMD), the Health Services Division (HSD), and student organizations, officially opened month-long activities and events to increase awareness within the USeP community about mental health on October 7, 2024 at USeP Obrero Campus.
In her speech, UAGC Director Joerene L. Gacot invites all members of the USeP community to participate in the various activities that center on self-care promotion and mental health awareness guided by the theme, “My Mental Health, My Priority” and the World Federation of Mental Health theme, “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace”.
On October 10, 2024, an Emotional Baggage Counter will be available at the College of Technology (CT), where University personnel and students can express their emotions and unburden their thoughts. Likewise, a Freedom Wall near the USeP center stage will provide a creative outlet for sharing hope, resilience, and solidarity messages.
The celebration continues on October 24, 2024, with a Mental Health Seminar and Anti-Drug Campaign at the University Gymnasium and Cultural Center (UGCC). Students can also participate in activities like Mental Health Film Viewings, Psychological Testing, an Open Mic Session, and various Wellness and Self-Care Activities at Dugout A and B of the UGCC.
Finally, on October 29, 2024, the University will offer PhilHealth Consultations and Health Screenings at the Social Hall, followed by a Mental Health in the Workplace Seminar to address the importance of mental health in professional environments.
These events are designed to support mental well-being and foster a healthier, more supportive University community.
As the University endeavors to become an agent for the transformation of communities in the ASEAN and beyond, USeP acknowledges that Mental Health awareness celebration must be a year-round commitment not just for October as the foundation of a resilient and quality institution is safeguarded by its members’ mental and physical well-being.
