The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), together with other State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) from various parts of the Philippines, has gathered for the three-day National Association of State Universities and Colleges Secretaries (NASUCS) 2024 Conference and General Assembly from October 2 to 4, 2024. This event was organized by the NASUCS, Inc., in cooperation with the Palawan State University (PSU) and co-hosted by the Western Philippines University (WPU).

Bearing the theme, “Secretaries-in-Action: Challenges and Transformations,” the conference aims to establish the required documents to be presented to the SUC Governing Board during meetings, based on harmonized standards, for a better understanding of the concerns that require appropriate action by the Board of Trustees/Regents (BOT/R). The conference also seeks to enhance the value of the board secretary’s role by increasing their awareness and understanding of the challenges in the management of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Additionally, it aims to strengthen collaboration among board secretaries nationwide and to share best practices to improve their performance in fulfilling their duties.

USeP was represented by Ms. Jamaica R. Lapayag (Board Secretary I), Ms. Ma. Luisa T. Oani (Records Officer II), and Ms. Beatrix C. Abores (Administrative Aide VI).

PSU President Dr. Ramon M. Docto delivered his welcome remarks to set the tone for the event. Meanwhile, former Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner and Board Secretary of the University of the Philippines Dr. Lilian A. De Las Llagas emphasized the importance of board secretaries and their crucial role in the success of their institutions.

Other distinguished speakers during the three-day event include Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) Executive Director Dr. Milabel Enriquez-Ho; PSU School of Medicine Associate Professor Dr. Eleonor E. Antonio, CHED Executive Director Atty. Cinderella Filipina B. Jaro, Nueva Vizcaya State University Board Secretary V Dr. June Grace C. Domingo, CHED Former Commissioner Dr. Ruperto Sangalang, and Bukidnon State University (BukSU) Vice President for Administration and Finance and Board Secretary V Mr. Dante S. Victoria, Jr.

This event serves as a vital platform for board secretaries to enhance their skills and collaboration, ultimately contributing to the effective governance of HEIs. Through shared experiences and insights, participants are better equipped to meet the challenges of their roles and foster positive transformations within their respective universities.
