Davao City, Philippines — October 15, 2024 — The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges-Region XI (PASUC-XI) launched the Dabaw Patigbabaw 2050: Regenerative Futures Plan at the Seda Hotel, Davao City, uniting university presidents and stakeholders in a shared vision for the region’s future.
The Dabaw Patigbabaw 2050 plan (translated as “Davao to Rise Above”), is strategically designed to address the current and future challenges of the Davao Region, emphasizing sustainability and resilience.
The plan was crafted under the guidance of the Philippine Futures Thinking Society and with the diligent efforts of a Technical Working Group chaired by Dr. Daisy T. Besing from the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP). With the support and leadership of former USeP President Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao and current USeP President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales Jr., along with guidance from regional focal person USeP Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Dr. Roger C. Montepio, numerous workshops were spearheaded to meticulously refine the plan. Several experts in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development from USeP had previously contributed to the plan in a series of workshops in mapping, value creation, scenario building and strategy development.
This groundbreaking initiative is a result of a two-year collaborative effort among six member State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Davao Region, and is the first of its kind among SUCs in the Philippines. The event featured a lecture by Mr. Emmanuel De Guia, Resident Futurist for Senator Pia Cayetano. Following this, Dr. Daisy T. Besing led a workshop aimed at creating a regional Futures Thinking Research Agenda.
USeP President Dr. Gabales reaffirmed his commitment to the Dabaw Patigbabaw 2050 plan, highlighting USeP’s success in institutionalizing Futures Thinking and Strategic Foresight. Under his guidance, over 450 personnel have been trained, including all senior leaders and approximately 300 students.
USeP stands united with PASUC-XI in expressing gratitude to Senator Pia Cayetano for her efforts in securing funding for this vital initiative.
