USeP hosts second IGP summit; HEIs to embrace fiscal sustainability, innovation


Aiming to strengthen regional cooperation and address complex legal frameworks, focusing on best practices for enhancing financial resilience and capacity in higher education institutions, the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), through the Resource Management Division (RMD) hosted its 2nd Income Generating Project (IGP) Summit on December 10, 2024, at the USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus (TMC), Mabini Unit, with the theme, “CIRCLES: Compliance, Innovation, Regional Collaboration, Leveraging Efficiency, and Sustainability”.

The summit brought together higher education institutions (HEIs) and Private Sectors to exchange ideas and strategies for enhancing income-generating projects. It emphasized the importance of innovation, collaboration, and efficiency in driving sustainable economic growth and institutional development aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Participating higher education institutions include the Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology (KCAST), Monkayo College of Arts, Sciences, and Technology (MonCAST), Kolehiyo ng Pantukan (KNP), and West Visayas State University (WVSU).

In his opening remarks, USeP President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr. emphasized the importance of diversifying and strengthening financial resources to sustain the growth and evolution of any institution. Dr. Gabales also bared exciting initiatives that USeP will propose to the Board of Regents through the RMD. “We recognize that financial sustainability is integral to the continued success and growth of our University, and these initiatives are designed to complement our academic and research strengths. They will allow us to continue serving our immediate community while creating lasting impacts that benefit the broader public,” he said.

USeP Vice President for Administration Dr. Maria Luisa B. Faunillan also gave an inspiring message to the participants. She centered her speech on the importance of collaboration of higher education institutions to address the needs of the communities they serve.

Representatives from organizations such as the Davao Penal Farm and the Tagum City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. were also in attendance. The summit featured the sharing of Income Generating Project (IGP) experiences by a WVSU representative. It also included a lecture series led by an expert in Farm and Poultry Management and a session on Enhancing the Efficiency and Accountability of IGPs, presented by a representative from the USeP Internal Audit Unit.

The summit was also graced by the members of the USeP Top Management: USeP Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Dr. Roger C. Montepio, and USeP TMC Chancellor Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva.

RMD Director Dr. John Mark S. Francisco wrapped the event with his closing remarks, thanking the USeP Top Management, community, and the participants for the success of the Summit.
