USeP kicks off Nat’l. Women’s Month in support of gender equality, inclusive communities

A month-long campaign promoting inclusive leadership and gender equality began on March 2, 2026, during the first flag-raising ceremony of the month, as the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) launched the 2026 National Women’s Month observance across its campuses.

The observance forms part of the nationwide celebration led by the Philippine Commission on Women under the theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society” and the sub-theme, “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”

In his message, University President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr. cited the progress of Filipino women from their leadership roles in pre-colonial society to their contributions today in education, research, public service, and other professional fields. University records as of January 2026 show 330 female teaching personnel and 305 female non-teaching personnel, reflecting the strong participation of women in the institution’s academic and administrative workforce.

The President emphasized that the observance goes beyond ceremony, calling for gender equality to be reflected in everyday practices, institutional policies, and decision-making.

Following the President’s message, a poetic tribute titled “Ang Babaylan sa Ating Dugo” was presented. The piece, authored by Gender and Development (GAD) advocate and faculty member Mr. Mark Anthony G. Arellano, highlighted the enduring strength, wisdom, and leadership of women inspired by the legacy of the Babaylan.

Throughout March, the University’s GAD Office will conduct activities to promote awareness, learning, and engagement on gender and development.

The celebration supports the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, particularly Goals 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
