USeP hosts DMW RO XI seminar equipping graduating students across Davao Region with knowledge on overseas migration

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) hosted the Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office XI (DMW RO XI) for a Regionwide Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) on March 13, 2026, at the University Gymnasium and Cultural Center, USeP Obrero Campus. The event, organized in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office XI, brought together 2,672 graduating students and young professionals from 36 higher education institutions across Region XI.

The seminar aimed to prepare students for overseas employment by providing information on legitimate recruitment procedures, the rights and responsibilities of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and government programs and services available to protect migrant workers and their families.

Vice President for Administration Dr. Maria Luisa B. Faunillan delivered the message of University President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, who emphasized USeP’s role in preparing graduates for responsible international employment and highlighted the contributions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to families, communities, and the economy.

The seminar was led by DMW RO XI Regional Director Maria Carolina B. Agdamag, while CHED RO XI was represented by Education Supervisor Liza C. Suan, reflecting the collaborative effort of key regional partners in preparing students for overseas employment.

The orientation stressed early awareness of migration processes, including the risks of illegal recruitment and employment scams, and promoted informed decision-making among aspiring OFWs. The seminar aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing access to practical learning (SDG 4: Quality Education), promoting safe and productive employment (SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth), and protecting vulnerable workers from exploitation (SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities).

The initiative also reflects the value of multi-sector collaboration (SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals), with USeP, DMW RO XI, and CHED XI working together to prepare students for overseas employment while safeguarding their rights and welfare.

The Regionwide PEOS is part of DMW RO XI’s continuing efforts to promote safe, orderly, and responsible migration. The Department acknowledged USeP and partner institutions for their role in equipping future OFWs with the knowledge and awareness needed to navigate global careers responsibly.
