As we welcome the new academic year, the University of Southeastern Philippines School of Medicine (USeP-SoM) celebrates its first white coat ceremony, a significant milestone in a student’s medical education as they are about to enter the medical clerkship.

Over the course of the last three years, the USeP School of Medicine has equipped the level III medical students, class of 2025โ€”Batch Sahayaโ€”with the scientific and clinical tools necessary to prepare them for actual patient encounters as physicians in both community and hospital settings. This ceremony is a ritual that marks the student’s transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences, which started in 1993 and was created by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. During the ceremony, a white coat is donned on each student and the Oath to Humanistic Care is recited, signifying their entrance into the medical profession.

The occasion was graced by the University President, Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr., and the Medical Center Chief of the Davao Regional Medical Center, Dr. Bryan O. Dalid, both of whom gave their message of inspiration to the upcoming medical clerks. Messages of support also poured in from the USeP Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jeneifer C. Nueva, and the Chancellor of the Tagum-Mabini campus, Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva. The presence and support of the USeP Vice President for Administration, Dr. Maria Luisa B. Faunillan, School of Medicine faculty from various departments and staff, parents, and students were deeply felt and have contributed to the overall success of the event.

The top 3 medical students were also recognized for their outstanding academic performance during the academic year 2023-2024.
Our congratulations to Batch Sahaya! May you truly be of service to humanity, upholding the noble traditions and ideals of the University and bringing honor and glory to her name by working with the utmost effort, efficiency, and integrity.
