The College of Information and Computing – Extension Unit has just concluded its two-month-long Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Training Series titled “Hi Tek na si IP: ICT Training series to IP Youth of Talaingod, Davao Del Norte” last August 20, 2022.

The closing ceremony was held at Uraya’s Peak located in the same area. The training series was conducted every weekend starting June 11 until August 14, 2022. This extension activity was designed to help educate and develop the technical skills of the IP Youth in Barangay Sto. Niño and to improve their technological abilities. The CIC faculty members were the trainers of the thirty (30) IP youth under the care of the 56th Infantry Battalion (IB) TATAG division headed by Lt. Col. Osmalik D. Tayaban, the Commanding Officer. Having the same vision and mission with the 56th IB, the College accepted the challenge of molding the lives of these young people who were deceived by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) of false promises.

The event was graced by the university officials, namely: Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva; Dr. Eleanor T. Guden – Research Director; Dr. Roby V. Pagong – Extension Director; Dr. Cristina E. Dumdumaya – PMMED Director; and Dr. Ariel Roy L. Reyes – SDMD Director. Ms. Rowena Taojo also represented the Department of Information and Communications Technology Region XI (DICT –XI) on behalf of the Regional Director, Ms. Evamay C. Dela Rosa.

The CIC faculty and staff were also in full force to support the activity headed by the College Dean, Dr. Ivy Kim D. Machica; the Extension Head, Ms. Cheryl R. Amante; the Program Heads, Mr. Hobert A. Abrigana-BSCS, Ms. Nancy S. Mozo-BSIT, and Ms. Gresiel E. Ferrando- BLIS and AS. Other faculty members present were Dr. Randy S. Gamboa-CIC Faculty Club President/OJT Coordinator; Ms. Leah O. Pelias-GAD/PAD/LMS Coordinator; Ms. Vera Kim S. Tequin-Student and Alumni Coordinator; Ms. Eula Mae Nabong-Templa – CT Head Librarian/BLIS Faculty; Ms. Annacel Delima- Head-USeP Main Library/BLIS Faculty; and the College staff Ms. Marjorie G. Inocando and Mr. Jammes Aaron Jadloc.

It was indeed a memorable and heartwarming event in the lives of the IP youth for they were also given certificates of completion, tokens, and prizes for their hard work and diligence in completing the activities and hands-on exercises given by the trainers. Truly, beginnings are always the hardest, but with perseverance and hard work, any goal can be achieved with teamwork and dedication.

Kudos to the College of Information and Computing for a job well done!
