UNDP reps visit USeP CIC – MCIIS for Design Sprint on Marine Litter

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representatives visited the College of Information and Computing – Mindanao Center for Informatics and Intelligent Systems (MCIIS) at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) to engage with participants of the Design Sprint on Marine Litter.

During the visit, UNDP representatives namely Rosstyn Fallorina, Head of Solutions Mapping; Francis Capistrano, Head of Experimentation; and Elmerei Cuevas, Social Innovation Analyst—acknowledged the efforts of third-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science students who actively participated in the initiative. The students presented innovative proposals focused on marine waste management, with approved projects including Tides of Trash, Marine Waste Intelligent System, and others. Their contributions highlight the potential of technology-driven solutions in addressing environmental challenges.

The discussion was led by Dr. Ivy Kim D. Machica, Dean of CIC, facilitated and assisted by Ms. Vera Kim S. Tequin, MCIIS – Center Manager; Ms. Cheryl R. Amante, Extension Head, and Engr. Michael V. Machica, IPMU Deputy Director. Their presence underscored the University’s commitment to innovative solutions for environmental sustainability and the center’s goal for developing modern informatic tools and conducting theoretical and applied research in Artificial Intelligence.
