In a bid to enhance reproductive health services in the Caraga region, the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga, in partnership with the University of Southeastern Philippines School of Medicine (USeP SoM), through Dr. Amelia Anastasia D. Ang, a faculty member specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, successfully carried out a three-day training program on bilateral tubal ligation via mini-laparotomy with local anesthesia (BTL-MLLA) and non-scalpel vasectomy (NSV). Held on September 11-13, 2024, the training aimed to equip itinerant health teams with advanced skills in permanent contraception procedures.

The training not only bolstered the capacity of local health workers but also demonstrated the value of collaboration between government agencies and academic institutions in expanding access to specialized medical services in remote areas. By equipping health workers with these essential skills, the DOH and its partners are empowering communities in Caraga to access family planning services more easily and helping improve overall reproductive health outcomes.

The success of this training lays the foundation for continued partnerships between academic institutions and government agencies, ensuring that quality healthcare extends to even the most remote areas of the country.
