International Engagement – Get ready for EngAGE & COIL


As a Center of Development in English in the Philippines, the Bachelor of Arts in English Language major in Applied Linguistics (BAELAL) program is proud to announce the launch of English Language Enhancement Program and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) with the Phenikaa University of Vietnam.

Held on April 22, 2025 via Zoom, the event marked the official start of two internationalization initiatives: EngAGE, which stands for English Language Skills being Activated in order to Grow and Excel, and the COIL program.

The opening ceremony was attended by key figures from both institutions. From USeP, Dr. Marnie Grace I. Sonico, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), gave the opening remarks. She was joined by Assoc. Prof. Sajed S. Ingilan, BAELAL Program Head; Dr. Adora Zerrudo, Director of the International Affairs Division; and Asst. Prof. Joy R. Risonar, OJT Instructor and Associate Dean of CAS.  From Phenikaa University, the event was graced by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dang Suu, Dean of the English Language Faculty, and Dr. Dang Thi Huong Thao, Vice Dean. Assoc. Prof. Dang Suu extended a warm welcome to the participants, while Assoc. Prof. Ingilan delivered an inspiring message to both facilitators and students.

The BAELAL student-teachers facilitated the program and welcomed the participants with an overview of the five-week journey, interactive introductions, and a sneak peek at the collaborative activities, including creating the “Experiencing Philippines and Vietnam” infographics project.

The session also included a pre-program assessment to gauge written and oral English language skills, helping set the lessons and activities for meaningful growth throughout the program. With dynamic breakout room discussions and engaging facilitators, it marked an exciting start to intercultural understanding and global collaboration.

The participants of EngAGE and COIL are expected to accomplish the following:

1)The BAELAL Student-teachers will be able to practice their English Language Teaching Skills;

2) The Phenikaa University Student-participants will be able to practice their English Language Skills;

3) The USeP students and PU students will work as a team to determine the contents of inforgraphics that can serve as authentic materials to be used in future English language classes; and,

4) The USeP students and PU students will improve their teamwork and digital skills.

With both universities committed to excellence and innovation in language education, this partnership promises to leave a lasting impact that reaches far beyond the virtual classroom.
