The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) successfully conducted its onsite concept paper public forum held at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) building, last September 07, 2024.
The public forum featured the various study proposals across the graduate programs: Four from the Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, eight from Master of Arts in Literature, four from the Master of Science in Applied Mathematics, and two from Master of Science in Biology.
Present in the event were the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jeneifer C. Nueva; Dean of the Office of the Advanced Studies Dr. Eveyth P. Deligero; CAS Dean Dr. Marnie Grace I. Sonico; and GSAS Head and CAS Associate Dean Asst. Prof. Joy R. Risonar. The Program Heads were also in attendance: Dr. Angelo Lenard E. Yu – Master of Arts in Literature, Asst. Prof. Joy R. Risonar – Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, Dr. Stephanie O. Espinola – Master of Science in Applied Mathematics, and Dr. Majella G. Bautista – Master of Science in Biology.
In a heartfelt and inspiring message, Dr. Nueva shared, “Conducting research requires imagination, curiosity, and willingness to face uncertainties. It is not a linear process with predetermined results. Rather, it is a journey of discovery where every step—even the misstep—contributes to your knowledge and growth.”
Parallel sessions of the different graduate programs were held where comments, questions, and suggestions were raised by the audience to invite a wider arena for discussion and help presenters improve their studies. Program Heads and graduate school faculty members facilitated the sessions and provided substantial comments and critiques to guide the presenters to come up with a quality and ethical research study.
The said forum also serves as the initial activity before the thesis proposal, where graduate researchers can gain better insights into their field of study and acquire help in assessing the novelty, feasibility, and relevance of their research while ensuring it is anchored in the vision of the University of being a premier research university transforming communities in the ASEAN and beyond.
