USeP IKSP Project Team Conducts Data Validation with Matigsalug ICC/IP of Marilog


The USeP Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP) Project Team, under the USeP Mindanao Center for Policy Studies (USeP MCPS), conducted their Data Validation for their research on the IKSP on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) of the Matigsalug ICC/IP of Marilog District on July 8, 2022, at Mapantow, Marilog District.

Study Leader Assoc. Prof. Mary Grace Z. Agbas of the College of Development Management (CDM) confirmed with the Matigsalug ICCs the collected focus group discussion (FGD) data on the IKSP on disaster risk reduction and management to the Matigsalug Indigenous Cultural Communities headed by Datu Rody Mande. The validation activity is in line with the team’s commitment to document and publish the indigenous knowledge systems and practices of selected indigenous peoples in the Davao Region.

Together with Study Leaders, Assoc. Prof. Gladys Florangel I. Ortiz of CDM, Mr. Virgel S. Torremocha of CAS, and Project Staff, Ms. Ingrid Gallogo of MCPS, IKSP Project Leader, Assoc. Prof. Sajed S. Ingilan of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) thanked the Matigsalug culture bearers for the confidence and cooperation extended to the USeP IKSP Team.

The IKSP Project aims to raise awareness on the use of indigenous knowledge systems and practices to complement mainstream knowledge on disaster risk reduction and management. The project is a partnership between the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) and eight ICCs/IPs in Region XI, namely, the Ata of Paquibato District, Davao City; Bagobo-Klata of Upper Sirib, Calinan District, Davao City; Bagobo-Tagabawa of Sibulan, Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur; Kagan of Banaybanay, Davao Oriental; Mansaka of Tagum City; Manobo of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Matigsalug of Marilog District, Davao City; and Sama of the Island Garden City of Samal.
