USeP CARS shines in SMAARRDEC’s student research conference

The Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC) conducted the “Innovating AANR Solutions: A Student Research Conference” on December 1, 2023, at the USeP Social Hall, Obrero, Davao City. The activity is part of SMAARRDEC’s plan to provide an avenue for male and female undergraduate students in agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) courses in the region to convene in a conference to present their brilliant thesis outputs.

Emailyn Baoy, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) major in Entomology batch 2023, secured 1st place among the eight (8) entries in the poster category for her thesis titled “Beneficial Arthropod Populations Associated with Mixed Refuge Flowering Plants Under Rice-Fish Culture System”.  Karen Joy Suico, BSA major in Horticulture batch 2023, ranked 3rd on best paper (Agriculture category) on her work on “Effect of Exogenous Ethylene on the Ripening Synchronization and Cup Quality of Robusta Coffee (Coffea canephora)”.  Eleven (11) paper presentation entries are in the agriculture category from different consortium member institutions (CMIs).  Baoy is under the advisory of Dr. Larry V. Aceres, while Suico is under Dr. Joyce C. Limbaga.

Baoy and Suico received a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize of Php 5,000.00 and Php 3,500, respectively.

The dual triumph in the poster category and paper presentation during the student research conference reflects individual achievement and the dedication and excellence fostered within the academic community. As this students’ success resonates beyond the conference, it inspires aspiring researchers, highlighting the significance of thorough research, effective communication, and unwavering confidence in pursuing academic excellence. As research is embedded in the AANR curricula, this activity aids the CMIs in stirring enthusiasm among the learners to indulge in more meaningful research work for competition and industry consumption.
